The Slow Wine Guide 2012 assigns the symbol of a
"snail" to our winery
|
|

|
For the second consecutive year we have been awarded the
highest rating from the guide published by
Slow
Food, assigned to some 162 wineries throughout Italy.
In addition, the Montefalco Sagrantino 2007 has been awarded "slow wines". (a wine, besides excellent sensory characteristics, manages to distil the character of its terroir, history and environment in the
glass). |

2011 Harvest |
|
Vineyard
The vintage has been characterised by an abnormal weather pattern, with very hot and very cool periods in spring and in early summer. August at intervals had torrid temperatures, and subsequently, from late August through all of September, we had a warm, dry climate with a wide range of temperatures. This type of climate has favoured an
optimum maturation of the medium late and late grapes for Sangiovese,
Sagrantino and Trebbiano Spoletino.
Wine
cellar
a very promising vintage... but it is too early to make assessments and evaluations because the best grapes are still on the
vines!

Contrario:
Until now the unknown
side of Sagrantino |

Antonelli
releases a new wine: CONTЯARIO.
Why CONTЯARIO?
The name derives from the fact that it is the contrary (Contrario) to the
Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, which requires a long ageing (minimum 4 years), this wine an IGT Umbria appellation of pure Sagrantino grapes alone is just as enjoyable young (2 years). Contrary to its big brother, aged in wooden barrels, ContЯario has only one phase in stainless steel vats. Contrary to the Sagrantino of Montefalco, which needs to be accompanied by important meats, this new label of Antonelli San Marco is a wine for every meal.
In Contrario the Sagrantino is clearly recognizable, though expressing a different variation of its potential aroma and taste. It's a fascinating wine of great freshness and balance, fruity, with a complex aromatic range where along with the red fruits more fresh herbs and citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, are felt. All of such make this wine unique and recognizable.
Contrario is distributed in wine bars and specialist food shops around Italy in conjunction with the
CD "Contrario" of the pianist Maurizio Mastrini, a work of meditation consisting of few notes, but which convey deep emotion. The
composer Mastrini, a native of Umbria, is a new international music talent who rose to prominence for his ability to perform with a reverse reading of the music score, end to beginning. His performance include the great works of classical and contemporary music.

organic |
From
2009 we are moving to organic cultivation of our
grapes. Already for some years our olives have been organically
grown, now the vines will be also.
The conversion process into organic will take a period of 3
years, therefore we will be officially certified from the 2011 vintage. But already from two years ago we haven’t been using any fertilizers or chemical
pesticides.
For us, organic farming is interesting because, the vines have fewer weapons to defend themselves against diseases, therefore, one is obliged to take more care to ensure the vineyard is in balance, and pay attention to the different needs of individual vines, all of which translates into
better quality grapes and consequently of the wine.
